Chinese Movie Nights – Discovering Chinese Opera

In March, the China Cultural Center invites you to discover the Chinese opera and have a glimpse of Chinese cuisine. On March 7 and 10, Chinese opera will be highlighted and you will learn more about this popular form of drama and musical theatre in China.

The Chinese Opera was added to the Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List in 2010. It is the most popular form of drama and musical theater in China. This ancient and complete art combines complex eye and finger movements, music, dance, dialogue, songs, acrobatics and martial arts.

Synopsis
The first documentary explores the history of Chinese opera and let you discover its various styles. The signification of the costumes, makeup and role plays will have no more secrets for you!
Through the second documentary, you will meet ordinary Chinese people who devote all their energy and free time to their passion: the Beijing opera. These amateur performers often meet to exchange skills and love to practice whether at home or in public parks. Complete your visit to the exhibition “The Chinese in their Gardens” by diving deeper in the liveliness brought by these fans to Beijing’s public parks!
