Oriental Aesthetics – Bamboo Culture

With its long history in China, bamboo culture has permeated material as well as spiritual aspects of Chinese civilization.

Bamboo-based tools have been in production since the Spring and Autumn Period and in the 9th century AD China began to make paper using bamboo. It can even be used to manufacture weapons. Besides, bamboo’s strength and firmness have also become a spiritual symbol for perseverance and self-improvement in Chinese society.

The living art of bamboo spread in the ancient East, including Japan, India and other countries. The China Cultural Center in Brussels is now sharing the unique appeal of bamboo culture in this five-part online photo exhibition to look at bamboo from different angles!
