Bronze vessel from the Western Zhou dynasty

This vessel (zun) of Marquis Lu is from the early Western Zhou dynasty. It is an outlier among bronze works of this period.

Its smooth body contains both rectangular and circular elements. The head of a horned beast is depicted and its tusks are showing. The vertical flanges resemble a bird’s curvy tail. The design indicates the owner’s noble identity.
