Gu’s embroidery from the Ming dynasty

Originating in Shanghai in the early 17th century, Gu’s embroidery is said to be invented by MIAO Ruiyun from GU Mingshi’s family. This marvelous craft is more than 400 years old and listed as national intangible cultural heritage of China.

This album of Gu’s embroidery by Miao Ruiyun is the only one known to exist. Upon looking closer at this painting-like artwork, the refined details in the embroidery of the leaves and fruit are stunning.
