Spring Blossom, Autumn Harvest – Photo Exhibition on Shanghai’s Achievements in China’s 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up

Shanghai, the economic center of China, has known striking progress since the Reform and Opening Up, initiated in 1978. On the occasion of this policy’s 40 year anniversary, the China Cultural Center in Brussels will host a photo exhibition showing Shanghai’s development and the innovations that characterize the city.

Home to China’s largest port, Shanghai is flourishing as the country’s economic center. With its cultural hot spots and tourist attractions, like the City God Temple and the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai continues to attract attention from abroad, where the city has been nicknamed “Paris of the East”. The Pudong skyline, viewed from the Bund, is another must-see when you are visiting Shanghai. Not only do the buildings along the water light up beautifully at night, the Bund also embodies the rich history of this booming city.

An important chapter of that history has been the reform and opening-up policy from 1978. At the forefront of this policy, Shanghai has undergone significant transformations and achieved astonishing innovations, becoming increasingly important on the national and international scene. Committing to principles of ecology, inclusiveness, and shared development, the city continues to aim to further improve itself as an innovative, cultural, and eco-friendly metropolis.

It has been four decades since Shanghai started to reform and open up, and remarkable progress has been realized. On the occasion of the policy’s 40 year anniversary, which coincides with the Center’s third year anniversary, the China Cultural Center in Brussels will host a photo exhibition from 25 September until 2 November. The exhibition, presenting 70 photos, will show the evolution of Shanghai’s development and highlight the city’s innovative nature.
