Calligraphy from the Eastern Jin dynasty

WANG Xianzhi (344-386) was an eminent calligrapher of the Eastern Jin dynasty (317-420) and son of WANG Xizhi (303-361), famous calligrapher, politician, general and writer.

This 15-character note was written by Wang Xianzhi and addressed to his friend. It reads, “The Ya Tou Wan [a medicine] didn’t work. Let’s meet tomorrow.” This incomparable masterpiece, though claimed to be a copy from the Tang dynasty, shows his impressive dynamic semi-cursive style.
