Wine vessel from the Shang period

This lei (urn-shaped earthenware wine jar) from the late Shang period (13th-11th century BCE) is a gorgeous wine vessel for banquets.

Over 50 centimeters high, it is large in size and an aesthetic example of the Shang people’s drinking culture. The vessel’s full body is decked out with phoenix and animal patterns against a delicate background.
