Kick-off of the BRICS Film Festival

On the evening of September 4th, the China Cultural Center in Brussels launched its week dedicated to the BRICS Film Festival! Among the guests, H.E. QU Xing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Alexander TOKOVININ, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Antonio José VALLIM GUERREIRO, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Baso SANGQU, Ambassador of South Africa to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of India, the Ambassador of the African Union, and more than 100 officials from the BRICS countries, the European Union and Belgium attended the opening ceremony.

From September 3rd to 5th, the 2017 BRICS summit is held in Xiamen, China. In response to the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation, and mutual benefit, there was a common willingness to further cultural exchanges between the BRICS countries. As a result, the Chinese Embassy in Belgium united the embassies of Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa at the China Cultural Center in Brussels to hold together the BRICS Film Festival from September 5th to 9th. During the festival, ten outstanding films from the five countries will be screened.

H.E. QU Xing introduced the BRICS Film Festival to the guests. The films were selected and sent by BRICS embassies, each country sending a short film and two featured films; among them, the films from the Chinese Embassy respectively present the Chinese tea culture, the natural scenery, and the life of contemporary Chinese young people. The selection is indeed a kaleidoscope reflecting China’s history, society, and culture China. H.E. QU Xing further pointed out that the BRICS Film Festival will set up a bridge between the people of the BRICS countries and promote mutual understanding, respect, and trust.

H.E. Antonio José VALLIM GUERREIRO’s speech highlighted the important role played by cultural exchanges in deepening communication among the peoples, and praised the efforts made in the matter by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium and the China Cultural Center in Brussels.

H.E. Alexander TOKOVININ mentioned in his speech that the BRICS countries are a long-term and comprehensive cooperation mechanism. This time, the five BRICS embassies in Belgium have succeeded in bringing together diverse cultures to the China Cultural Center in Brussels. It is a perfect example of how different cultures seek to share differences and blossom together.

H.E. Baso SANGQU thanked again H.E. QU Xing and the China Cultural Center in Brussels for bringing together the embassies of the five countries on this occasion, and pointed out the valuable interactions and mutual learning experiences brought by cultural exchanges.

The Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of India finally expressed that culture is an important aspect of deepening national exchanges and that culture will greatly promote mutual understanding.

At the opening ceremony, the artists of the Shanghai Pop Music Orchestra played the Chinese classical repertoire “Butterfly Lovers” and other world-famous song. The guests then enjoyed the short films of the BRICS countries and immersed themselves in the harmony of multicultural exchange.
